Dr. Scott Trenhaile of Rockford Orthopedic Associates announced the Midwest’s first implementation of OrthoSpace Ltd.’s InSpace biodegradable balloon system, at the Rockford Orthopedic Surgery Center.
Dr. Trenhaile is 1 of 7 U.S. surgeons participating in an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) pivotal human clinical study of OrthoSpace Ltd’s InSpace biodegradable balloon system, providing treatment of full thickness massive rotator cuff tears. While InSpace is currently available outside the United States and has been implanted in over 5,000 patients in 15 countries, Friday’s announcement marks the first time the balloon has been implanted in the Midwest.

After the procedure, Dr Trenhaile commented, “I’m honored to be a part of this study and to contribute to the US dataset to facilitate InSpace’s entry into the U.S. Market. This groundbreaking system allows for the minimally invasive surgical treatment of massive rotator cuff pathology with the potential to significantly reduce the patient’s recovery time.” The study is ongoing.
